- In order to develop semiconductor solutions for a next-generation E-Axle (X-in-1 system) that combines an EV drive motor and power electronics for electric cars (EVs), Nidec Corporation (OTCPK:NJDCY) and Renesas Electronics (OTCPK:RNECY) have come to an agreement.
- Per the terms, the two businesses decided to work together to create a highly dependable and high-performance proof of concept for the X-in-1 system using a combination of Nidec's motor expertise and Renesas' semiconductor technology.
- Nidec intends to quickly productize E-Axle systems to add to its portfolio and ramp up to mass manufacturing in order to dominate the E-Axle market by building on the PoC created through this collaboration.
- Renesas intends to expand the jointly created PoC for E-Axle reference designs in order to create and supply turnkey solutions for X-in-1 systems that are getting more complicated.
- Featuring a 6-in-1 system with a DC-DC converter, OBC, and power distribution unit as well as a motor, inverter, and gearbox, both parties plan to launch the first PoC by the end of 2023.
- Further, both parties plan to develop a highly integrated X-in-1 PoC that incorporates a battery management system along with other components, as part of second phase in 2024.
