Have Meta Media Holdings Insiders Been Selling Stock? \

Simply Wall St ·  May 21, 2023 21:14

We'd be surprised if Meta Media Holdings Limited (HKG:72) shareholders haven't noticed that the Founder, Zhong Shao, recently sold HK$1.4m worth of stock at HK$0.76 per share. On the bright side, that sale was only 0.5% of their holding, so we doubt it's very meaningful, on its own.

Meta Media Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by Zhong Shao is the biggest insider sale of Meta Media Holdings shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of HK$0.79, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. We note that the biggest single sale was only 0.5%of Zhong Shao's holding.

Meta Media Holdings insiders own about HK$259m worth of shares (which is 76% of the company). Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
