Curaleaf Lays Off 47 Employees In Colorado As Cannabis Industry Trend Continues

Benzinga Real-time News ·  Feb 7, 2023 11:21

Curaleaf Holdings, Inc. (OTCQX:CURLF) submitted its WARN notice to the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment, revealing that 47 employees will be laid off, reported The Pueblo Chieftain. These layoffs come as a part of the planned proactive closure of the majority of the company's operations in California, Colorado and Oregon announced in January. These layoffs also follow a previous round that took place in November and resulted in some 220 employees losing their jobs.

The WARN notice is only for Colorado and affects The Spot 420 Pueblo West Dispensary at 748 E Industrial Blvd, Pueblo West, along with four cultivation operations at:

  • 920 38th Lane, Pueblo;

  • 127 S. Nielson Avenue, Pueblo;

  • 46795 E. State Hwy 96, Avondale;

  • 129 E Enterprise Dr. Pueblo West.

A Growing Industry Trend

Curaleaf is not the only company letting workers go. Many cannabis companies have recently handed out pink slips to workers as part of cost-saving measures.

  • Columbia Care Inc (OTCQX:CCHWF) is laying off numerous workers at its Saxton facility, per data from the Department of Labor & Industry; 73 employees will be let go effective February 28.

  • LeafLink, an online wholesale cannabis platform, laid off 80 workers on December 15th.

  • WM Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MAPS) cut 25% of its workforce, amounting to 175 employees.

  • Trulieve Inc. (OTCQX:TCNNF) laid off an unspecified number of workers at its McKeesport growing facility in Pennsylvania.

  • Leafly (NASDAQ:LFLY) laid off 21% of its workforce in October, claiming annual savings of $16 million.
