Insiders at Cavco Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:CVCO) sold US$819k worth of stock at an average price of US$293 a share over the past year, making the most of their investment. The company's market worth decreased by US$170m over the past week after the stock price dropped 8.3%, although insiders were able to minimize their losses

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Cavco Industries

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, Steven Like, for US$819k worth of shares, at about US$293 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$212). So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it. Steven Like was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership Of Cavco Industries

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Cavco Industries insiders own about US$125m worth of shares (which is 6.6% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
