Insiders Sold US$3.2m Worth of WESCO International, Inc. (NYSE:WCC) Stock Last Year, Could Be a Warning Sign to Watch Out for

Simply Wall St ·  Sep 14, 2022 11:55

While it's been a great week for WESCO International, Inc. (NYSE:WCC) shareholders after stock gained 3.3%, they should consider it with a grain of salt. In spite of the relatively cheap prices, insiders made the decision to sell US$3.2m worth of stock in the last 12 months. This could be a warning indicator of vulnerabilities in the future.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

WESCO International Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive VP & CFO, David Schulz, sold US$1.4m worth of shares at a price of US$136 per share. That means that even when the share price was slightly below the current price of US$138, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 24% of David Schulz's holding.
