GMS Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the VP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Craig Apolinsky, for US$450k worth of shares, at about US$60.58 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$45.21. So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership Of GMS

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 0.6% of GMS shares, worth about US$12m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

An insider sold stock recently, but they haven't been buying. Looking to the last twelve months, our data doesn't show any insider buying. But it is good to see that GMS is growing earnings. Insider ownership isn't particularly high, so this analysis makes us cautious about the company. We'd practice some caution before buying!
