As Datang Group Holdings Limited's Market Cap (HKG:2117) Drops to HK$3.0b, Insiders Might Be Questioning Their Decision to Buy Earlier This Year

Simply Wall St ·  Aug 31, 2022 20:36

Insiders who bought CN¥702m worth of Datang Group Holdings Limited's (HKG:2117) stock at an average buy price of CN¥3.59 over the last year may be disappointed by the recent 17% decrease in the stock. This is not good as insiders invest based on expectations that their money will appreciate over time. However, as a result of recent losses, their original investment is now worth only CN¥425m.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Datang Group Holdings

In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when Executive Chairman Di Wu bought HK$702m worth of shares at a price of HK$3.59 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than HK$2.17 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Di Wu was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.
