Insiders who bought HK$1.6m worth of China Water Affairs Group Limited (HKG:855) stock in the last year recovered part of their losses as the stock rose by 6.1% last week. However, the purchase is proving to be an expensive wager as insiders are yet to get ahead of their losses which currently stand at HK$563k since the time of purchase.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

China Water Affairs Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Executive Chairman Chuan Liang Duan for HK$1.6m worth of shares, at about HK$10.38 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being HK$6.77). It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. Chuan Liang Duan was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.
