05:56 AM EDT, 07/28/2022 (MT Newswires) -- The Nikkei 225 opened higher Thursday on Wall Street cues and after the US Federal Reserve's 0.75% rate-hike announcement on Wednesday, then waffled, but still finished up 0.4%.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 99.73 to 27,815.48, as gaining issues outnumbered losers 110 to 100.
Leading the upside were online medical-services outfit M3 (MTHRF, 2413:Tokyo), up 14%, followed by Mitsubishi Motors (MMTOF, 7211:Tokyo), up 11%, and then Chubu Electric Power (CHUEF, 9502:Tokyo), up 7.7%.
On the downside were Mitsubishi Electric (MIELY, 6503:Tokyo), off 5.8%, and then web-services concern CyberAgent (CYGIY, 4751:Tokyo), off 5.8%.
In other news, Tokyo officials reported a fresh all-time zenith of 40,406 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, eclipsing the previous high of 34,995 cases recorded on July 22, reported The Mainichi newspaper.
