A day after the company's dismissal order, nearly half of the 593 employees facing dismissal for refusing to be vaccinated have provided proof of vaccination, and 320 have not, United said on Thursday.
United said on Tuesday that as many as 593 employees faced dismissal after this week's deadline for refusing to be vaccinated against novel coronavirus.
United Airlines has set a Sept. 27 deadline for vaccination for about 67000 U. S. employees. The company said 2000 employees had applied for exemption on medical or religious grounds. The company plans to evaluate the requests by October 15, when exempted employees will face unpaid leave.
However, as of September 28, there were still 593 employees who refused to comply with the policy or did not ask for exemption. United Airlines said it would begin the firing process for these employees on Tuesday, which is in line with the employees' collective bargaining agreement.
