Insiders At Resideo Technologies Sold US$563k In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  May 7 10:24

Resideo Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:REZI) shareholders might have a reason to worry after multiple insiders sold their shares over the last year. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Resideo Technologies

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Senior VP & Executive Advisor, Phillip Theodore, sold US$329k worth of shares at a price of US$16.45 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$20.75. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 13% of Phillip Theodore's holding.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Resideo Technologies insiders own about US$36m worth of shares. That equates to 1.2% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
