A fire broke out at EV maker Rivian Automotive Inc.'s (NASDAQ:RIVN) plant in Normal, Illinois, on Monday afternoon.

What Happened: The fire, whose cause remains unknown, destroyed a semitrailer in a loading dock on the south end of the plant and damaged another, the Normal Fire Department said.

While no one was injured in the incident, a portion of the plant had to be evacuated until the air quality improved, they said, while adding that the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

The exterior of the building above the dock area also sustained moderate heat and smoke damage, the department said.

This is the second fire incident at Rivian in the past week as another fire occurred under a section of a conveyor belt that moves vehicle chassis down the assembly line on the western side of the building on Thursday morning, WGLT reported.

Benzinga has reached out to both Rivian and the Normal Fire Department regarding these two fire incidents. They did not respond as of the time of publishing this story.

The manufacturing plant in Normal is Rivian's only. The company has plans for another $5 billion plant in Georgia. However, the construction of the Georgia plant has been halted to cut costs for now and is expected to resume only at a later point in time.

Price Action: Rivian shares closed up 3.7% at $9.38 in the previous session, but were down 1.4% in Tuesday's premarket hours, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
