Hong Kong stocks hovered near a two-month high on Thursday, as investors took in mixed corporate earnings, with Asia-focused HSBC (HKG:0005) disappointing the market, while travel platform operator Trip.com (HKG:9961) beat expectations.
The Hang Seng Index climbed 1.45%, or 239.85 points at 16,742.95. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI) advanced 2.05%, or 115.68 points, to 5,758.46
Trip.com jumped 7.06% on upbeat fourth-quarter revenue, which surged 105% year-over-year, beating expectations, amid robust Chinese travel demand.
Meanwhile, HSBC lost 1%, pulled down by news of an 80% drop in 2023 profit as the lender factored in several charges during the fourth quarter.
In other corporate news, China Traditional Chinese Medicine Holdings (HKG:0570) surged some 24% following parent Sinopharm Group's (HKG:1099) decision to privatize the former. Sinopharm's shares closed up 4%.
