Over the past year, many LiveRamp Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:RAMP) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At LiveRamp Holdings

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Consultant, Warren Jenson, for US$699k worth of shares, at about US$23.37 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$36.52). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. It is worth noting that this sale was only 12% of Warren Jenson's holding.

Insider Ownership Of LiveRamp Holdings

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 2.9% of LiveRamp Holdings shares, worth about US$70m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
