Jeff Bezos sold about $2 billion worth of Amazon.Com Inc shares and said the money would be used to restore nature and transform the food system as part of his Bezos Earth Fund (Bezos Earth Fund).

The APP of Zhitong Finance has learned that Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos) has sold about $2 billion worth of$Amazon.Com Inc (AMZN.US) $Stock, and said the money will be used as part of his Bezos Earth Fund (Bezos Earth Fund) to restore nature and transform the food system.

According to Securities and Exchange Commission filings, Bezos sold 608450 shares under a pre-arranged trading plan. After the deal, Bezos reduced his holdings to about $8.6 billion this year.

The world's second-richest man still holds about 10 per cent of Amazon.Com Inc and is worth $196 billion, according to data.

Bezos financed his rocket company Blue Origin by selling shares and pledged $10 billion to the Bezos Earth Fund to help deal with the effects of climate change. Bezos announced at the COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow, Scotland, promising $1 billion to support landscape restoration in Africa and the United States. Another $1 billion will be spent on food and agricultural systems, such as increasing crop yields.

Amazon.Com Inc's share price has risen just 3.9 per cent this year, compared with a 76 per cent surge last year as people relied on online shopping during the epidemic.

In the 15 years after Amazon.Com Inc went public in 1997, Bezos sold about 1/5 of Amazon.Com Inc's shares for about $2 billion. The value of his holdings has grown so rapidly in recent years that he can now sell relatively small shares for billions of dollars. Last year, he sold more than $10 billion worth of shares.
