New York State's largest health care provider, Northwell Health (Northwell Health), announced on Oct. 4 that it had laid off 1400 employees who refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Northwell Health said in a statement that vaccination of all its employees would enable the company to "provide uninterrupted services to patients while all facilities in the hospital remain open and fully operational".
New York State requires more than 650000 staff in hospitals and nursing homes in the state to be vaccinated against COVID-19, which came into effect last week.
