日本百岁以上老人达86510人 创历史新高

The number of people over 100 years old in Japan reached a record high of 86510.

The number of people over the age of 100 in Japan reached an all-time high of 80, 6510, an increase of 6060 from a year ago, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health and Labor on Sept. 14. Among them, the number of women is more than 7 times that of men, close to 90% of the whole. The oldest birthday girl is 118 years old for women and 111 years old for men.

Driven by advances in medical technology, the number of Japanese people over 100 has increased for 51 consecutive years since 1971.

Japan designated September 15 as "Old people's Day", and the Ministry of Health and Labor counted the number of people over the age of 100 as of the 15th according to the basic account of residents (equivalent to the household registration book).

In terms of gender, the number of women over 100 was 76450, accounting for 88.4 percent of the total, an increase of 0.2 percentage points over the previous year and an all-time high. The number of males was 10060, exceeding 10, 000 for the first time.

The number of people aged over 100 per 100000 people in Japan is 68.54, which is also a new record.

In Japan, the number of people over the age of 100 increased from 153 in 1963 to more than 1000 in 1981, more than 10, 000 in 1998, and nearly 20-fold in the following 30 years. There are more than 15000 more people in 2021 than in 2019.
