Bursa Malaysia suffered a bloodbath on April 7 as more than 1,000 counters ended their trading day lower as a wave of heavy selling swept through the market.

In the broader market, selling dominated as decliners thumped gainers 1,296 to 122, dragging market breadth down to a bleak 0.09. In other words, for every stock that went up, about ten went down — showing the market was firmly in bear territory.

Malaysian Pacific Industries, the top loser on Bursa Malaysia, tumbled RM2.50 to close at RM14.66. Heineken Malaysia Bhd slid RM1 to RM25.50, Allianz Malaysia Bhd lost 96 sen to RM17.04, Petronas Dagangan Bhd fell 88 sen to RM17.32 and Hong Leong Industries Bhd dropped 82 sen to RM12.96.

The gainers, on the other hand, was led by Nestle (M) Bhd who gained RM1 to close the trading day at RM74, followed by Kluang Rubber Company (Malaya) Bhd increased 18 sen to RM5.68, Lysaght Galvanized Steel Bhd grew nine sen to RM2.49, Dkls Industries Bhd extended seven sen to RM1.75 and Grand Central Enterprises Bhd rose five sen to 43 sen.

Meanwhile, some other 170 counters were unchanged and 771 counters were untraded.

Traded volumes surged to 5.35 billion units, valued at RM4.7 billion as relentless selling pressure took hold.
