Savvy shoppers already know they can save money when they shop at Dollar Tree instead of big-box retailers. But how much more money can you save, especially on Memorial Day must-haves?

GOBankingRates carefully combed through the Dollar Tree website to compare its Memorial Day offerings to similar items sold at Target and determine what’s worth buying at Dollar Tree for extra savings.

Kids Multi Colored Fashion Sunglasses

Memorial Day weekends with the kiddos mean packing sunglasses along to shield eyes from the sunlight. While Target does offer affordable kids’ sunglasses, its cheapest pair of Sun Squad Kids Americana visor sunglasses are priced at $3.00 each.

That’s still $1.50 more expensive than what you’d pay for at Dollar Tree where shoppers can pick up two pairs of kids multicolored fashion sunglasses for just under $3.

Cooking Concepts Bamboo Skewers

If you’re grilling up tons of meat and veggies for skewers, would it make more sense to buy bamboo skewers at Dollar Tree or Target?

The answer is Dollar Tree. Target shoppers can purchase the Room Essentials 100-piece bamboo skewers for $2.00, but Dollar Tree shoppers save 75 cents with Cooking Concepts 100-count bamboo skewers.

Cooking Concepts Deluxe Slotted BBQ Spatulas

Currently, the cheapest spatula for sale at Target is the two-piece spatula and fork grill tool set from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia. This set is priced at $7.99.

While that price tag does account for a spatula and a fork, shoppers can pick up barbecue spatulas for $1.25 each at Dollar Tree and shop Cooking Concepts telescopic barbecue forks which are also priced at $1.25 apiece. This comes out to a final total of $2.50 when shopping for a barbecue spatula and/or fork as needed.

Breckenridge Farms Hamburger Dill Pickle Chips

In a pinch, shoppers could purchase the Oh Snap! pickle chips sold at Target for $1.59 per packet. However, they won’t get many pickles that way. Each bag measures up to 3.25 fluid ounces and most Memorial Day cookouts featuring hot dogs and hamburgers require more pickles than that.

The second-cheapest pickle chip option at Target is Mt. Olive hamburger dill chips which are $3.19 each. $1.94 in savings might not sound like very much money, but it allows Dollar Tree shoppers to purchase two jars of Breckenridge Farms hamburger dill pickle chips and still have a little change leftover compared to buying the Mt. Olive pickle chips.

Betty Crocker Suddenly Pasta Salad

Cooking a pasta salad for Memorial Day weekend? Shoppers can head to Dollar Tree for Betty Crocker’s Suddenly Pasta Salad or shop the same Betty Crocker brand at Target.

Which store gives them the best deal? Once again, Dollar Tree edges Target out as the winner. At $2.99 for a 7.5-ounce box, Target may seem like the cheaper alternative but look again. The same Betty Crocker pasta salad sold at Dollar Tree is $1.25 for a 3.9-ounce box. Shoppers that purchase two boxes not only save a little bit of money but gain a few extra ounces of pasta salad totaling 7.8 ounces altogether.

McCormick Round Storage Containers

Packing up leftover food at the end of a long Memorial Day weekend requires having plenty of plastic storage containers, like Dollar Tree’s McCormick round storage containers, handy. Each set for $1.25 includes three plastic containers.

Would it be cheaper to get these containers at Target instead? Not necessarily. The new Dealworthy brand of snap-and-store medium rectangle food storage containers does include three containers but is priced at $3.00 for the set. This is $1.75 more than what shoppers would pay at Dollar Tree.
