Mercedes-Benz Group AG (Mercedes-Benz Group AG) said that the US Department of Justice (US Department of Justice) has completed investigations related to exhaust emissions and will not file a lawsuit against the German automaker.
“We can confirm that the Department of Justice has closed the investigation and will not be filing a lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz,” the Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz said in an emailed statement on Saturday.
Renata Jungo Bruengger (Renata Jungo Bruengger), a member of the Mercedes-Benz Management Board (Mercedes-Benz Management Board), said the decision was “another step towards legal certainty relating to various diesel lawsuits.” US Department of Justice officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside of working hours on Saturday.
The company's stock price recorded its biggest drop in more than three months in April 2016, when the company announced that the US Department of Justice had asked it to review its certification and admission procedures relating to US exhaust emissions.
The company said it is cooperating fully with authorities and the US class-action lawsuit alleging that some of its cars are in violation of emissions standards is “unfounded.”
