Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.13% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 11.49% or 11.39 points to trade at 110.53 at the close. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 1.60% or 4.61 points to end at 291.94 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 1.27% or 2.31 points to 184.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 1.27% or 0.51 points to trade at 39.91 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 1.25% or 2.64 points to end at 209.28 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) shed 1.18% or 0.27 points to 22.54.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ralph Lauren Corp Class A (NYSE:RL) which rose 16.78% to 171.83, Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which was up 14.20% to settle at 737.07 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) which gained 11.49% to close at 110.53.
The worst performers were PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which was down 11.24% to 56.13 in late trade, Snap-On Inc (NYSE:SNA) which lost 9.67% to settle at 266.03 and Fleetcor Technologies Inc (NYSE:FLT) which was down 9.21% to 265.10 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Syra Health Corp (NASDAQ:SYRA) which rose 321.74% to 4.85, Hitek Global (NASDAQ:HKIT) which was up 218.42% to settle at 3.63 and NanoString Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:NSTG) which gained 118.42% to close at 0.12.
The worst performers were Tenax Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TENX) which was down 64.45% to 5.07 in late trade, Solidion Technology Inc (NASDAQ:STI) which lost 33.71% to settle at 1.16 and Adverum Biotechnologies Inc (NASDAQ:ADVM) which was down 29.89% to 1.97 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1705 to 1136 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2131 rose and 1260 declined, while 133 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.31% to 12.79.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.14% or 2.85 to $2,048.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.61% or 2.67 to hit $76.53 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.27% or 2.59 to trade at $81.80 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.76% to 149.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 104.01.
