Alphabet Shares Fall After Google Loses US Advertising Tech Antitrust Case in Part
$Alphabet-A (GOOGL.US)$ shares dipped 1.3% after a judge ruled that Google violated Section 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Act "by willfully acquiring and maintaining monopoly power in the open-web display publisher ad server market and the open-web display ad exchange market."
The tech giant also violated Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act when it "unlawfully tied its publisher ad server and ad exchange," US District Judge Leonie Brinkema said Thursday in her memorandum opinion.
At the same time, the judge said the plaintiffs failed to prove "monopolization of the advertiser ad network market."
"Having found Google liable, the Court will set a briefing schedule and hearing date to determine the appropriate remedies for these antitrust violations," Brinkema said.
