$Texas Instruments (TXN.US)$ rose some 5% after hours Tuesday after the tech firm beat analyst estimates on Q1 sales and earnings per share.

TXN gained 5.4% to $174.35 shortly before 4:30 p.m. ET after reporting $1.20 in earnings per share, which exceeded analysts' $1.08 consensus estimate by 11.1%.

The company also said quarterly sales totaled $3.660 billion -- beating the $3.611 billion that analysts had expected, but falling 16.5% from the $4.379 billion that TXN recorded in the same period last year.
