July 16, local time, according to the Danish radio and television station (DR))It is reported that the Greenland self-government has stopped all future oil exploration in and around the world's largest island, saying it is doing so for the climate and the Arctic environment, natural resources, booming tourism and the country's main sources of income, hunting and fishing.
The Ministry of Mines of the Autonomous Government believes that despite the prospect of rising oil prices, future oil exploration and exploitation in Greenland will have too much impact on the environment.
"We are seeing the consequences of climate change every day and we want to contribute to global solutions," said Greenland Environment and Energy Minister Kalistat Lund.
The Greenland Autonomous Government said it would continue to focus on improving the utilization of mineral raw materials and would also seek to attract investment to take advantage of the huge untapped hydropower potential.
It is estimated that there is still about 18 billion barrels of oil development potential in West Greenland, and the US Geological Survey has previously estimated that there are still 36 billion barrels of natural gas and crude oil to be discovered in East Greenland.
