On the afternoon of the 10th local time, Agence France-Presse quoted automobile manufacturing group Stellantis as saying that its subsidiary Citroen was formally filed for review after it was summoned by the Paris judicial court earlier in the day. The reason is that Citroen's fifth-generation European emission standard diesel models sold in France from 2009 to 2015 are suspected of emission "fraud".
Just two days earlier, Peugeot, which belongs to the same group as Citroen, and Renault, another French carmaker, announced that they would be filed for review by the French for the same reason. It is reported that all three companies have been required to pay deposits and provide large bank guarantees. Stellantis also said Fiat, its other major car brand, would be subpoenaed by the Paris judicial court in July.
After the German Volkswagen first exposed the "emission gate" scandal in 2015, the French government decided to test the emissions of more than 80 models sold in the country. Test results in July 2016 showed that diesel vehicles from a number of automakers had excessive nitrogen oxide emissions. On January 12, 2017, the relevant judicial investigation was launched.
