Well, tales of DIY projects continue to delve into the tech industry, and it's no surprise to see enthusiasts surface, showcasing their distinctive creations to the public through forums like Reddit. Most projects involve either showcasing a product driven by a motive or solving a recurring daily-life problem. The creator says that he wanted to play Pokemon Emulators for a long time, which was the driving motive behind his handheld project. Why didn't he opt for existing options such as Steam Deck?

The Redditor says he was unaware of such a product in the markets, so either he was living under a rock or didn't read our news pages. Regardless of that, the effort is admired, and here's a quick rundown of the handheld features based on the information we have compiled from the comments. It took him 9 months to finish this project!

So, starting with the specifications, as disclosed previously, the device comes with AMD's Ryzen 5 5600G processor, a very capable APU, despite being almost a generation old. It's a popular one of its time, featuring a 6-core & 12-thread configuration, a 3.9 GHz base, and a 4.4 GHz boost clock. The user decided to utilize ASUS's X300M-STX motherboard, a unit from the Deskmeet X300 series with a compact design best suited for handheld SFFs. The handheld has 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a crucial P3 1TB SSD onboard. The device comes with a 108wh battery mounted externally.

For display, the custom device comes with an 8-inch 1280 x 800p touchscreen with an HDMI interface. Surprisingly, for cooling, the handheld is equipped with two fans integrated at the back, in sort of an open enclosure, which looks quite interesting to witness since having such a design in consumer products won't even pass the safety standards, to say the least, but let's not forgot that the purpose of the project was DIY.

For the overall design, there isn't much running around, but it's safe to say that the handheld is bulky, and according to the Redditor, the device weighs around 1.560g / 3.44 pounds without the external battery.

It's exciting to see such projects appear online since they show how enthusiastic the community is about DIY work. Props to the creator's effort; it's indeed astonishing to see. The whole build can be seen here.
