Insiders who bought US$1.02m worth of The Children's Place, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:PLCE) stock at an average buy price of US$23.70 over the last year may be disappointed by the recent 38% decrease in the stock. Insiders buy with the expectation to see their investments rise in value over a period of time. However, recent losses have rendered their above investment worth US$537.7k which is not ideal.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Children's Place

Children's Place

The CEO, President & Director Jane Elfers made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$1.0m worth of shares at a price of US$23.70 each. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$12.51 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Jane Elfers was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
