Deliveries of the new P7 in Europe will begin in June, and deliveries of the G9 are expected to begin in September.

XPeng (NYSE: XPEV) is officially bringing its two flagship models to Europe, restarting an overseas expansion that was suspended for much of last year.

The company announced today that it has introduced its two newest electric vehicles to the European market, the G9 flagship SUV and the new P7 sports sedan.

Both models were on display at eCar Expo in Stockholm from February 3 to 5 and can now be ordered in Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden.

"XPeng G9 and P7 bring a combination of superior styling, quality, performance and comfort, exemplifying our market-leading technology and innovation. Today also represents a significant milestone as we build our presence in Europe," said Brian Gu, vice chairman and president of the company.

"We believe both vehicles deliver a new level of sophistication and a people-first mobility experience, and will be the electric vehicles of choice for many European customers," Gu added.

Notably, this is the debut of a facelifted version of the P7, which has yet to be officially launched in XPeng's home market of China.

The launch of the new P7 in China is expected in March, CnEVPost learned from a source familiar with the matter.

The XPeng G9 was officially launched in China on September 21, 2022, with deliveries starting on October 27. To date, 8,622 G9 units have been delivered in China, including 2,249 units in January, data monitored by CnEVPost shows.

G9 for Europe

Designed to meet E-NCAP five-star safety standards and strict EU WVTA vehicle certification, both the G9 and P7 are models that bring some of the most powerful and advanced electric vehicle technology to Europe, according to XPeng.

The G9 features a new powertrain system and an 800V silicon carbide (SiC) platform that enables ultra-fast charging of up to 300 kW, allowing drivers to add 100 kilometers of range in just five minutes, XPeng said today.

This makes it possible to charge the 98-kWh battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in 20 minutes.

For the rear-wheel-drive long-range version of the G9, it can travel 570 km WLTP on a single charge.

The all-wheel-drive version of the G9 boasts up to 551 hp and 717 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.9 seconds.

Its dual-chamber air spring system offers extensive stiffness adjustment to help the vehicle handle complex road conditions and ensure optimum ride comfort.

The G9 can be fitted with an electric tow bar and towing loads of up to 1,500 kg to suit the European lifestyle.

The new P7

The new P7 has been optimized for a maximum charging power of 175 kW and fast charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 29 minutes, according to XPeng.

The P7's range has been improved, providing up to 576 kilometers of WLTP on a single charge for the rear-wheel-drive long-range version.

The model's all-wheel drive version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, and Brembo brakes are standard.

The new P7 is available in a range of color styles, as well as an exclusive Wing Edition featuring scissor doors.

XPeng has introduced a power tailgate and soft-close doors for the P7 for greater comfort and convenience. It also has a heat pump and heated steering wheel for easier winter driving in colder parts of Europe.

Intelligence

Both the XPeng G9 and P7 are equipped with XPILOT, the company's advanced driver assistance system, which provides safety, driving and parking support.

These features are supported by 29 sensors, including high-definition millimeter-wave radars, ultrasonic sensors, surround-view and high-awareness cameras, enabling the vehicle to safely handle a wide range of driving scenarios.

The upgraded in-car Xmart OS features a new 3D user interface that supports English, Dutch, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish, depending on the market.

Xmart OS also features an improved "Hey, XPeng" voice assistant, which can distinguish complex voice commands from all four zones of the cabin.

These services are supported by infotainment screens and a library of in-car applications that provide assistance, information and entertainment for drivers and passengers.

The G9 and P7 will also support simple and seamless OTA updates, allowing software and firmware improvements during normal use, according to XPeng.

Pricing and delivery

The XPeng G9 is available in Europe in three versions -- a standard range version with rear-wheel drive, a long range version with rear-wheel drive, and a performance version with all-wheel drive.

Starting prices for the G9 in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark are NOK 499,900 ($49,740), SEK 699,900 ($67,360), EUR 57,990 ($63,190) and DKK 479,900 ($70,260), respectively.

The XPeng P7 is also available in Europe in three versions -- a rear-wheel drive long range version, an all-wheel drive performance version, and a Wing Edition.

Starting prices for the P7 in Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark are NOK 439,900 ($43,770), SEK 599,900 ($57,770), EUR 49,990 ($54,480) and DKK 399,900 ($58,590), respectively.

All prices include VAT and exclude local taxes, registration fees and delivery charges.

Deliveries of the new P7 will begin in June and deliveries of the G9 are expected to begin in September.

Deliveries of both models will take advantage of new delivery and service centers that XPeng has opened in key markets: at Lørenskog in Norway (opening February 2023), Badhoevedorp in the Netherlands, Stäket, Järfälla in Sweden and Hillerød in Denmark – all opening in the second quarter 2023.

XPeng said it will also open additional authorized service points with dedicated partners in key European countries by the end of 2023.

By partnering with Europe's leading third-party charging operators and mobility service providers, including Plugsurfing and Shell Recharge, XPeng's customers will have access to more than 400,000 public charging stations across Europe.

With its new models, XPeng will work with local partners to offer third-party home chargers and installation services to provide customers with a seamless and convenient charging experience, it said.

The company offers European customers a five-year/120,000-kilometer warranty as standard.

For customers ordering a new P7 or G9 between February 3 and December 31, 2023, the standard warranty will be extended to seven years/160,000 kilometers from the date of delivery.

Restarting efforts to expand overseas

XPeng took the European market seriously early last year and has made a number of moves there, including the opening of the company's first experience store in the international market in Sweden in March.

On March 10, 2022, XPeng allowed local consumers to pre-order the P5 sedan, the company's third production car, in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.

However, on June 22 last year, XPeng announced that it was suspending all P5 reservations and pre-orders in four European countries and would shift its focus to the P7 sedan, citing foreseeable export schedule issues.

After that, there was no more news about XPeng's moves in Europe.

XPeng's latest move comes at a time when the Chinese market is facing stiffer competition and is expected to allow overseas markets to gradually start contributing sales.

The company saw a significant drop in deliveries in the second half of last year. The figure returned to the 10,000-unit level in December, when it reached 11,292 units.

In January, XPeng delivered 5,218 vehicles, down 59.62 percent from 12,922 units a year ago and 53.79 percent from 11,292 units in December.

The month's vehicle deliveries reflected a seasonal slowdown during the Chinese New Year holiday that began in mid-January, the company said. January 21 to January 27 was the just-passed Chinese New Year holiday.

Other electric vehicle companies, including its local peers NIO (NYSE: NIO) and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), also saw a drop in deliveries in January because of the Chinese New Year holiday.
