Shareholders in Recursion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:RXRX) Have Lost 24%, as Stock Drops 5.3% This Past Week
Shareholders in Recursion Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:RXRX) Have Lost 24%, as Stock Drops 5.3% This Past Week
Recursion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:RXRX) shareholders should be happy to see the share price up 14% in the last month. But that is minimal compensation for the share price under-performance over the last year. In fact, the price has declined 24% in a year, falling short of the returns you could get by investing in an index fund.
Given the past week has been tough on shareholders, let's investigate the fundamentals and see what we can learn.
View our latest analysis for Recursion Pharmaceuticals
Recursion Pharmaceuticals wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. When a company doesn't make profits, we'd generally expect to see good revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
Recursion Pharmaceuticals grew its revenue by 178% over the last year. That's well above most other pre-profit companies. The share price drop of 24% over twelve months would be considered disappointing by many, so you might argue the company is getting little credit for its impressive revenue growth. Prima facie, revenue growth like that should be a good thing, so it's worth checking whether losses have stabilized. Our brains have evolved to think in linear fashion, so there's value in learning to recognize exponential growth. We are, in some ways, simply the wisest of the monkeys.
The image below shows how earnings and revenue have tracked over time (if you click on the image you can see greater detail).
It's probably worth noting that the CEO is paid less than the median at similar sized companies. It's always worth keeping an eye on CEO pay, but a more important question is whether the company will grow earnings throughout the years. So it makes a lot of sense to check out what analysts think Recursion Pharmaceuticals will earn in the future (free profit forecasts).
A Different Perspective
We doubt Recursion Pharmaceuticals shareholders are happy with the loss of 24% over twelve months. That falls short of the market, which lost 8.1%. There's no doubt that's a disappointment, but the stock may well have fared better in a stronger market. Notably, the loss over the last year isn't as bad as the 26% drop in the last three months. This probably signals that the business has recently disappointed shareholders - it will take time to win them back. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Like risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 4 warning signs for Recursion Pharmaceuticals (of which 1 shouldn't be ignored!) you should know about.
