Despite Shrinking by HK$585m in the Past Week, COFCO Joycome Foods (HKG:1610) Shareholders Are Still up 57% Over 5 Years
COFCO Joycome Foods Limited (HKG:1610) shareholders might be concerned after seeing the share price drop 17% in the last quarter. Looking further back, the stock has generated good profits over five years. It has returned a market beating 31% in that time. While the long term returns are impressive, we do have some sympathy for those who bought more recently, given the 28% drop, in the last year.
Since the long term performance has been good but there's been a recent pullback of 7.0%, let's check if the fundamentals match the share price.
View our latest analysis for COFCO Joycome Foods
COFCO Joycome Foods isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. That's because fast revenue growth can be easily extrapolated to forecast profits, often of considerable size.
In the last 5 years COFCO Joycome Foods saw its revenue grow at 19% per year. That's well above most pre-profit companies. While the compound gain of 6% per year is good, it's not unreasonable given the strong revenue growth. If you think there could be more growth to come, now might be the time to take a close look at COFCO Joycome Foods. Of course, you'll have to research the business more fully to figure out if this is an attractive opportunity.

What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. Arguably, the TSR gives a more comprehensive picture of the return generated by a stock. In the case of COFCO Joycome Foods, it has a TSR of 57% for the last 5 years. That exceeds its share price return that we previously mentioned. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
While the broader market lost about 12% in the twelve months, COFCO Joycome Foods shareholders did even worse, losing 24% (even including dividends). However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Longer term investors wouldn't be so upset, since they would have made 9%, each year, over five years. If the fundamental data continues to indicate long term sustainable growth, the current sell-off could be an opportunity worth considering. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Even so, be aware that COFCO Joycome Foods is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , you should know about...
