Top Key Executive Xiaokun Zhu, Tiangong International Company Limited's (HKG:826) Largest Shareholder Sees Value of Holdings Go Down 10% After Recent Drop
To get a sense of who is truly in control of Tiangong International Company Limited (HKG:826), it is important to understand the ownership structure of the business. We can see that individual insiders own the lion's share in the company with 53% ownership. That is, the group stands to benefit the most if the stock rises (or lose the most if there is a downturn).
As market cap fell to HK$6.1b last week, insiders would have faced the highest losses than any other shareholder groups of the company.
Let's take a closer look to see what the different types of shareholders can tell us about Tiangong International.

SEHK:826 Ownership Breakdown September 20th 2022What Does The Institutional Ownership Tell Us About Tiangong International?
Institutions typically measure themselves against a benchmark when reporting to their own investors, so they often become more enthusiastic about a stock once it's included in a major index. We would expect most companies to have some institutions on the register, especially if they are growing.
Tiangong International already has institutions on the share registry. Indeed, they own a respectable stake in the company. This can indicate that the company has a certain degree of credibility in the investment community. However, it is best to be wary of relying on the supposed validation that comes with institutional investors. They too, get it wrong sometimes. It is not uncommon to see a big share price drop if two large institutional investors try to sell out of a stock at the same time. So it is worth checking the past earnings trajectory of Tiangong International, (below). Of course, keep in mind that there are other factors to consider, too.
SEHK:826 Earnings and Revenue Growth September 20th 2022We note that hedge funds don't have a meaningful investment in Tiangong International. From our data, we infer that the largest shareholder is Xiaokun Zhu (who also holds the title of Top Key Executive) with 28% of shares outstanding. Its usually considered a good sign when insiders own a significant number of shares in the company, and in this case, we're glad to see a company insider play the role of a key stakeholder. In comparison, the second and third largest shareholders hold about 24% and 2.8% of the stock. Interestingly, the second-largest shareholder, Zefeng Zhu is also Chief Executive Officer, again, pointing towards strong insider ownership amongst the company's top shareholders.
After doing some more digging, we found that the top 2 shareholders collectively control more than half of the company's shares, implying that they have considerable power to influence the company's decisions.
Researching institutional ownership is a good way to gauge and filter a stock's expected performance. The same can be achieved by studying analyst sentiments. Quite a few analysts cover the stock, so you could look into forecast growth quite easily.
Insider Ownership Of Tiangong International
The definition of company insiders can be subjective and does vary between jurisdictions. Our data reflects individual insiders, capturing board members at the very least. The company management answer to the board and the latter should represent the interests of shareholders. Notably, sometimes top-level managers are on the board themselves.
I generally consider insider ownership to be a good thing. However, on some occasions it makes it more difficult for other shareholders to hold the board accountable for decisions.
Our most recent data indicates that insiders own the majority of Tiangong International Company Limited. This means they can collectively make decisions for the company. Given it has a market cap of HK$6.1b, that means they have HK$3.2b worth of shares. Most would be pleased to see the board is investing alongside them. You may wish todiscover (for free) if they have been buying or selling.
General Public Ownership
The general public-- including retail investors -- own 34% stake in the company, and hence can't easily be ignored. This size of ownership, while considerable, may not be enough to change company policy if the decision is not in sync with other large shareholders.
