Insiders who sold Mongolian Mining Corporation (HKG:975) earlier this year probably made the right call as market cap dropped by HK$427m
Over the past year, insiders sold US$791k worth of Mongolian Mining Corporation (HKG:975) stock at an average price of US$3.96 per share allowing them to get the most out of their money. The company's market worth decreased by HK$427m over the past week after the stock price dropped 18%, although insiders were able to minimize their losses
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Mongolian Mining Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Independent Non-Executive Director, Tze Ching Chan, sold HK$791k worth of shares at a price of HK$3.96 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (HK$1.82). So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. Tze Ching Chan was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.
You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 7.0% of Mongolian Mining shares, worth about HK$133m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
So What Do The Mongolian Mining Insider Transactions Indicate?
The fact that there have been no Mongolian Mining insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. While we feel good about high insider ownership of Mongolian Mining, we can't say the same about the selling of shares. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. Our analysis shows 3 warning signs for Mongolian Mining (2 are a bit unpleasant!) and we strongly recommend you look at them before investing.
Of course Mongolian Mining may not be the best stock to buy. So you may wish to see this free collection of high quality companies.
