Shares of Meta Materials Inc. are trading lower on the Nasdaq, following its business combination with oil and gas exploration and production company Torchlight Energy Resources Inc.

The combination was effective as of 12:01 a.m. ET on June 28, the company said.

Following the combination, Torchlight's name was changed to "Meta Materials Inc." and its common stock will trade on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol MMAT, the company said.

Meta Materials said it is "a developer of high-performance functional materials and nanocomposites." The company also said it is "the first NASDAQ-listed metamaterials company."
