(Kuala Lumpur, 18th) S&P Global Ratings announced that it has revised the outlook for Genting Group and several of its core subsidiaries from 'stable' to 'negative'.
According to S&P Global Ratings' statement yesterday, the downgrade reflects potential downward pressure on Genting Group’s credit quality over the next two to three years due to high capital expenditures and an aggressive expansion strategy.
However, the long-term issuer and debt ratings for the relevant entities remain unchanged.
The companies affected by the revised outlook include Genting, $GENTING (3182.MY)$Genting Malaysia, $GENM (4715.MY)$ Genting New York, and Genting Las Vegas.
S&P noted that Genting Group will concurrently advance several large-scale investment plans in the coming years, including:
· Follow-up investments by Genting New York after obtaining a full casino license in New York State;
· Expansion project of Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore;
· Genting Energy's investment in a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility in Indonesia;
· The parent company proposed a privatization acquisition plan for Genting Malaysia worth approximately MYR 3.1 billion.
Driven by the aforementioned projects, S&P Global Ratings estimates that Genting Group’s capital expenditure in 2026 may reach twice the amount of approximately MYR 6 billion projected for 2025, significantly higher than the MYR 4.3 billion in 2024. It is also expected that annual capital expenditure will remain above MYR 8 billion from 2026 to 2030.
