Moomoo Australia – election 2025
By @Michael McCarthy CEO, @Jessica Amir
Voters and investors who are expecting the 'same old, same old' in the upcoming federal election could be in for a shock. This is likely to be a very different vote. Unlike many recent elections, this one has potential for impact on financial markets. So, over the next few weeks, be alert to potential reaction in stocks and the overall sharemarket.

Buying dips has delivered big profits to investors and traders over the last two years. The strategy is straightforward and easy to understand. And when stocks and indices are hitting repeated all-time highs, it almost doesn’t matter what price an investor pays, their position is in profit. It’s no wonder so many people are looking to buy the current dip, right?
The trouble with a simple strategy like dip-buying is that it works until it doesn’t. Those w...

Tesla is a stock that trades on sentiment and the flow of money. Valuing $Tesla (TSLA.US)$ on its earnings for example, is a futile exercise. Even after almost halving in value, it’s still trading on around 130 times last year’s earnings. Fundamental valuation of Tesla has delivered little or no insight into the share price action.
Yet the huge swings in TSLA’s stock offers high potential daily rewards, albeit at higher risk. The Average True Range reading at the...

Despite pressure on commodity prices, $BHP Group Ltd (BHP.AU)$ shares have held up reasonably well. Trading at around 11% below their 2024 peak, they compare well to other Australia 200 index heavyweights such as $National Australia Bank Ltd (NAB.AU)$ (-18%) and $CSL Ltd (CSL.AU)$ (-17%). However, one bad day last week suggests that may be about to change.

There's no sugar-coating this. This morning's $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ break down through the support at 8060 is an unambiguous negative, at least from a technical point of view. A close below the support level today would confirm a bearish outlook, and possibly a continuing downtrend.

The Volatility Index or $CBOE Volatility S&P 500 Index (.VIX.US)$ is often called the ‘fear and greed’ index, rising with concerns for the share market outlook, and dropping away as confidence rises. It’s well-known as a useful barometer of investor and trader sentiment. What’s less well known is that some investors use it as a signal generator, particularly when it comes to ‘buying the dip’.

Markets are described with numbers. It’s a linear world – prices can only go up, down or stay still. Because they are numeric and inclined to mathematical analysis, we can be fooled into thinking that markets are somehow logical, and that price analysis is scientific.
But market prices are not the product of a logical, mathematical or scientific process. They are a product of crowd behaviour. The current price of any stock, index or other tr...

Trading in the $S&P/ASX 200 (.XJO.AU)$ over the last week has broken the uptrend that began in October 2023. This signals a change in outlook for Australian shares, and is a warning to all investors that there may be further falls to come.
The first test of the downside is the support/resistance level at 8060. This is the level the market bounced off in November and December, and may act as support again. However a fall through 8060 could herald a deeper correction for Aus...

Asia Pacific share markets are looking at a positive start to the week after benign inflation data saw US markets rebound strongly on Friday night. Bond prices rallied, and both agricultural and industrial commodities came under renewed pressure, in clear signs that not all investors are as enthusiastic as stock buyers. The positive sentiment comes ahead of a week of data that will point to the health or otherwise of globally significant econo...

Chip manufacturer $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ delivered. Strong fourth quarter revenues and profits, a stockpile of cash and an outlook statement that expects more growth in this quarter than analysts predicted. It’s little wonder that the share price traded more than 5% higher in after-market trading.
The record result was bolstered by sales of Nvidia’s flagship Blackwell chips. Demand for more knowledgeable and deeper thinking AI models inspired an over...

Michael McCarthy CEO TWIMO (151403908) : It's a tough one - in some elections, it appears more voters put the national interest first - in other elections, it's how policies affect the individual that decides. Which do you think it will be in 2025?
Michael McCarthy CEO MooMamaLlama : Many suggest Clive Palmer got the least value from the 2022 election, spending over $200 million to elect a single senator. Do you think his Trumpet of Patriots party will be more successful this time?
Michael McCarthy CEO TWIMO (151403908) : Tend to agree - more unifying statements and actions, and less fear and anger, would contribute to a better Australia all around
Michael McCarthy CEO MooMamaLlama : Yes - a spending cap coming at the next election - could see Plamer go even harder at this election. We might see some mean reversion at this election - Palmer doing better, Greens and Teals less well. Labor winning back some QLD seats, Coalition winning some Victorian and WA seats
