The launch took place at the Boca Chica spaceport in Texas at 4:00 p.m. Central Time (6:00 a.m. on November 20 in Beijing). Following the launch, the Super Heavy booster successfully placed the Starship into the intended orbit. However, the planned attempt to capture the booster with the "Mechazilla" robotic arm was canceled for undisclosed reasons after four minutes of flight, causing the booster to splash down in the Gulf of Mexico. The Starship completed a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean after a low Earth orbit flight.
The main objectives of this test include verifying the Starship's engine ignition capability in orbit and the performance of the heat shield system. Despite the unsuccessful booster capture attempt, the overall test is still considered a significant step towards a fully reusable rocket system. SpaceX aims to reduce the cost of future space missions through these tests and lay the groundwork for future missions to the Moon and Mars.
