Fundamentally, this greatly enhances the user’s learning experience, which is a positive aspect.
What is the issue? Who are the users? Active learners, such as language enthusiasts and culture aficionados; passive learners, such as those who must learn for travel, work, or study purposes.
My argument is that people who are passionate about learning languages are a minority. As AI and simultaneous interpretation technologies mature, when people can communicate seamlessly with the help of earphones, passive learners will leave the platform, causing a rapid outflow of users.
Duol's current stock price still reflects a PE ratio of 120, overestimating high earnings growth for the next three to five years.
I believe the development of simultaneous interpretation technology over the next three to five years will be very promising. Apple has already launched its version, and subsequently, major companies will compete to enhance this functionality. If Duol fails to retain its users, and this logic falls apart, the stock price may drop further.

G同学 OP 103208779 : 1. First, you exaggerated my statement. What I meant was that the majority do not enjoy language learning, but not all learning.
2. Human beings are inherently inclined towards inertia; people will choose rest over learning if given the choice, or at least avoid engaging in low-value activities. If translation and simultaneous interpretation technologies continue to advance, language learning may become a low-value endeavor for most non-language professionals (with the exception of those who are passionate about languages).
3. Regarding what you mentioned about intrinsic motivation and social development, as someone studying computer science, I hope to spend more time learning about AI, algorithms, and economics, which bring far greater value and improvement to my skillset than memorizing vocabulary does. However, because I need to attend conferences in different countries and read academic papers, I am compelled to learn some languages, which is quite painful. I believe that most people's inherent laziness leads them to prefer focusing on their areas of expertise rather than spending time on learning phrases like 'how are you' in different languages. Specialization contributes most efficiently to societal progress and the advancement of civilization.
4. Moreover, professional linguists and cultural researchers are unlikely to rely on Duolingo for learning; it primarily caters to amateurs, enthusiasts, and beginners. For instance, it cannot adequately prepare me for the TOEFL exam—at least that is the case currently.

G同学 OP Zmd92 : Well, this is a long-term review spanning 3 to 5 years. In the short term, at least within a year, I would still focus on growth rates. However, I would consider placing my money in other areas with stronger certainty.

G同学 OP serena1104 : First, the exams are divided into specialized and general types. The specialized ones are seldom used. The general type refers to non-foreign language professionals. For instance, algorithm interviews now allow the use of AI. If technology becomes widespread enough, why require non-foreign language professionals to pass language exams? Isn't this a burden on students and workers? Even in the worst-case scenario, technological advancement will make life easier for those who don’t want to learn foreign languages, but it won't bring growth to the current demand but harm instead. So how do you intend to justify the value of such a high P/E ratio of over 100?
