Amazon expands cloud computing business in Singapore
$Amazon(AMZN.US$Amazon plans to spend US$9 billion (approximately RM42.66 billion) to expand its cloud computing infrastructure in Singapore, becoming the latest global technology company to increase investment in the Southeast Asian market.
Amazon said on Tuesday that the investment, which will be completed over the next four years, will double Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s investment in Singapore and help meet the growing demand for cloud services from customers and accelerate the application of artificial intelligence.
Bloomberg reports that AWS has been expanding its business outside of the US in recent years, with a large portion of its investment targeting the Asian market.
$Microsoft(MSFT.US$Microsoft, $Apple(AAPL.US$Companies such as Apple are also growing in the Southeast Asian market, partly because they are seeking diversified development in regions other than China and reducing geopolitical risks at a time when Sino-US relations are tense.
Including investment in Singapore, AWS has announced plans to invest about 35 billion US dollars (about RM165.9 billion) outside the US since this year, including Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico. The company is also building data center clusters in Malaysia and Thailand.
