In moments like these, investors don’t wait for confirmation. They rotate, de-risk, and hunt for whatever still holds value as...

(Kuala Lumpur, 12th report) Entering 2026, foreign funds have finally returned to the Malaysian stock market!
According to the MAA Group Investment Bank report, foreign funds ended four consecutive weeks of net outflows last week, which was the first full week of the year, with a net purchase of RM42.5 million worth of Malaysian stocks.
This was mainly due to last Friday and Wednesday, when foreign funds net bought RM191 million and RM80.4 million worth of Malaysian stocks respectively.
However, there were still net outflows in the other three days.
Last week, the sectors most favored by foreign funds were Industrial Products & Services (RM206.7 million), Property (RM69 million), and Technology (RM63 million).
Meanwhile, the sectors with the highest sell-offs by foreign funds were Utilities (-RM207.5 million), Plantation (-RM123.5 million), and REITs (-RM30.2 million).
Local institutions continued to support the Malaysian stock market for the eighth consecutive week, net buying RM126.6 million worth of Malaysian shares last week; while local retail investors sold RM169.2 million worth of Malaysian shares, extending their net selling record to the sixth week.
In terms of trading activity, the average daily trading volume (ADTV) generally increased last week: foreign fund trading volume rose by 67.3%, local institutional trading volume increased by 36.7%, and local retail investor trading volume rose by 30.5%.
Malaysian stocks approach 1700
With foreign capital flowing back and global investment sentiment strengthening, Malaysian stocks have also caught the upward trend, now only a step away from the 1700-point mark.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI reached an intraday high of 1697.78 points today, marking its highest level since March 2019.
