Recently, Malaysia’s fintech sector has been witnessing a wave of 'stablecoin' activity, marking a significant step forward for the country in digital asset innovation.
Following the announcement by a company under the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail, to launch the ringgit-pegged stablecoin RMJDT, AirAsia's parent company, Capital A (CAPITALA 5099), quickly followed suit, announcing a partnership with Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia to jointly explore the development and testing of ringgit-denominated stablecoins.
According to a joint statement released by both companies on Friday, this collaboration will take place under the framework of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Digital Asset Innovation Hub (DAIH).
Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia will act as the issuer of the stablecoin, while Capital A and its extensive ecosystem will focus on developing, testing, and piloting real-world enterprise (wholesale) use cases.
