“Invest in what you know.” - Peter Lynch. It’s not just about jumping on the IPO bandwagon; I have always believed that the design industry truly needs a tool like Figma to address collaboration pain points. When Adobe attempted to acquire Figma, I realized it was the missing piece in their product ecosystem.
Autodesk's Revit enabled multi-user collaboration within the BIM framework early on, allowing entire teams to work on the same project file continuously, significantly improving efficiency and eliminating the cumbersome process of repeatedly duplicating files as copy01, copy02, etc., and then piecing them together.
Figma's role in design collaboration is akin to Revit's role in BIM workflows. It enables real-time multi-user collaboration, completely transforming the inefficient process where one designer finishes their part before another takes over to make revisions.
Thus, I have been closely following Figma since Adobe announced its intention to acquire the company. Today, with its IPO, it feels like I’ve accompanied it on a meaningful journey and gained both recognition and rewards.
Although the current valuation does appear to be on the high side in my view, the IPO initially priced at around $30 was approximately in line with Adobe’s acquisition valuation.
