Here is what happened on Wednesday in the U.S. stocks market.
The stock market was subdued ahead of the year-end FOMC meeting. In the late-day trading session, stocks rallied when the Fed statement came out, which injected faith into investors because it showed the determination to fight inflation without restraining economic growth.
Key takeaways - Hawkish talk, dovish action
    1. Speed up tapering, on track to end bond buying mid-March
    2. Keep the federal funds rate in a target range of 0% to 0.25%
    3. Fed forecasts three rate hikes in 2022 and three more in 2023
    4. Interest rates policies are closely related to employment data
Why did the market jump on the Fed's decision?
    1. Traders have prepared for the worst. It could be an explanation to the rally on a Fed hawkish decision. Since the last Fed meeting, the market already expected hawkish decisions such as tapering speed up and interest hikes.
    2. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell balanced his rates outlook with a positive outlook of the economy.
    3. Investors are somewhat encouraged by the Fed's recognition and determination to fight inflation.
“It seemed like there was some hedging demand into the event, perhaps relief that the event has happened, regardless of outcome,” said Danny Kirsch, head of options at Cornerstone Macro LLC. “The event is gone, sell your hedge and move on.”
    The bottom line
Daily fluctuations of the stock markets are directly or indirectly affected by the changes in macroeconomic factors.
Therefore, knowing more about the Federal Reserve is helpful for your trading. Click to access the free course:

In company news, $Mercury Systems(MRCY.US)$ jumped out to a 10% gain shortly before Thursday's closing bell following reports activist investors Jana Partners plan to discuss possible options to improve shareholder value, including a potential sale of the defense electronics contractor.
$Cerence(CRNC.US)$ rose 9.3% after the edge software components company Thursday announced its "largest contract" ever, with a $149 million deal to provide a European automaker with its connected, conversational artificial intelligence-powered automotive assistant products.

What sectors are investors buying in for the week of Christmas?
    12
$Advanced Micro Devices(AMD.US)$ Whether it was a leak about merger news or rumor about intel production setbacks or whatever the real reason is doesn’t really matter. It cleared a significant technical hurdle and is moving with nice strength. The big boys are buying and that’s all that matters in the end.
Having limited fund in trading account does make one think very hard when selecting a stock to invest in. Also, being scarred from previous experience of trusting some hype stocks, I'm now more weary of hot stocks without fundamentals.
    Homework (Watchlist)
I do my homework by keeping a watchlist. During weekend as prepartion for week ahead, I would scan through ETF, indices to identify potential stocks. There are many places to find such lists, including MooMoo under Explore > Industry, Concepts. I generally look for strong up trending sector then strong momentum stocks within that sector. Group these into a watchlist.
    Homework (Basic info)
Then I would look for basic info and latest investment news of the stocks. Again, I just want to know what I'm buying
Depending on my interests in the stocks, I may or may not deep dive into news part. Sometimes to have a feel on upcoming business opportunities of these stocks. Those with merging & acquisition ones may have impact of stock prices.
Unfortunately, I'm not classically trained accountant so I cannot comprehend financial reports in detail. I often just make a note if the company is making profit
    Homework (Chart reading)
I try my best to study price structure of the stocks in watchlist. Basic trends, resistance and support levels, volume and candlesticks. Then to make an educated guess on predicting price action.
One tip to share: you can set alerts on some price points to initiate trade.
    Execution: Gut Feel?
After all the homework, it's time to trade! Recently I wanted to initiate a long position but I had to choose between $Apple(AAPL.US)$ or $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD.US)$. Both were around $150 at the time and were looking uptrend. In the end, I trusted the up trend in Apple and gut feel. Just exited the trade with a small profit but the market is very choppy recently. On hind sight, choosing Apple over AMD was a wise decision because AMD suffered a 15% correction during the same period. Oh, you do need some luck sometimes!
    AI Monitor
So I went to check out the AI Monitor at MooMoo. Will give it a try. I see some of the signals are related to my homework. So perhaps I can spend a little less time with homework and more time with family.
The market is rather stormy now, seeing $Tesla(TSLA.US)$ dipped below $900 and other mega cap stocks affected too. Safe trading!
    2
My 2021 investment journey has been rock and roll so far. Here are some of the few stocks that I bought (and/or sold to book profit). Most of them have rewarded me decently.
    $NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$   $Tesla(TSLA.US)$   $BlackBerry(BB.US)$   $Apple(AAPL.US)$   $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD.US)$   $Applied Materials(AMAT.US)$   $Ford Motor(F.US)$   $Alibaba(BABA.US)$   $Cisco(CSCO.US)$   $Tata Motors(TTM.US)$   $Fiverr International(FVRR.US)$   $Microsoft(MSFT.US)$   $American Airlines(AAL.US)$   $Rivian Automotive(RIVN.US)$   $Nokia Oyj(NOK.US)$   $Thermo Fisher Scientific(TMO.US)$   $Qualcomm(QCOM.US)$   $Intel(INTC.US)$
There are lots of ups and downs but it was good, as at every point of time, I have actually learnt something.
Stock market is like an ocean of knowledge. I get to learn something new at each and every step I take. It teaches me how to stay disciplined with my own money!
So far, I have enjoyed investing in this volatile market and I think this is the best time for anyone to enter the market and make some smart investments which can definitely pay off in the future. Remember, only invest what you can afford to lose!
I think my best investment by far is my education which has lead me to where I am today. It made me capable enough that I not only earn for myself but can help others too.
The majority of my investment is in the real estate followed by stocks, mutual funds, cryptocurrency and investing in watches.
Real estate is the other success story for me where I think I gained the best, while the rest of my investments also did reasonably well in 2021.
I believe in a well-diversified portfolio as it will expose me to much more opportunities for returns, while safeguarding against adverse market cycles.
I always believe in spending wisely than just investing for accumulating wealth. Whatever I earn, I try my best to utilise very wisely.
Summation of my stock market journey:
    Markets are forever.
There should be no compulsion to trade every day.
Taking care of losses is essential.
    Patience pays.
Wealth is a two-way road and one should learn to make it one way. Wealthy are those who learned the concept of keeping invested in liquid assets.
I have seen many people entering the stock markets looking for profits. Some will get quick profits in initial days and once they start losing money, they leave the markets. My suggestion would be, do not leave the markets. Stock markets are the biggest Teachers.
If trading is not your cup of tea, go for investing. Investments in stock markets give you returns which no one can ever provide. Thus, please exercise patience and stay long in the markets.
The bargain hunter in me automatically makes me a value investor. Eg, I will abruptly transit to buying something on sale, from buying something I had originally planned to get, when I feel they are on a super sale.
Always understand the difference between price and value. When you pay too high for a good business, you turn a great business into a poor investment. This turns your greatest advantage into greatest disadvantage. No matter how good the stock is, always buy at a bargain.
