    Word of the Year: Apes

moomoo annual ceremony is happening right now!
    Check it out here:
2021 in Review: Grow Together to the Moon!
2021 is a bumpy year for investors.
In the post-pandemic era, 2021 has become one of the most unusual years for stock market investors. We try to conclude this year's stock market with three keywords.
"Apes," "Vaccine," and "Musk" are chosen to be the three magical words that could best describe 2021.
Each of them alone is a powerful catalyst that could lead the entire stock market into turmoils. Let's take a deep dive into these words one by one and see how influential they are.
2021 is possibly the genesis of APEs. After the epic battle started in the GME arena, some investors changed from being "solitary animals" to "social animals." The surface of apes group is putting an end to investing alone.
Together, apes have a real impact!
The above are the merits made by apes. All of them are forged in the heat of battle so that the revolution is imprinted into the makeup of apes. In 2021, apes finally stood up and stuck together to fight against the almost unbeatable enemy, making the year memorable. They claimed that if combining every shred of power, apes could become the mainstream one day.
    "APE together strong!!!!!!" StrongStrongStrong
    Are you an ape?
Did I miss anything significant about "Apes?"
Please comment below to remind me of the missing memorable moments of apes.

The Power of Dollar Cost Averaging

Investing in the stock market can be tricky and challenging as there is no right or wrong way to invest. That said, some investing moves could be profitable while others may end up as costly mistakes. My investment goal is to build up a good quality stock portfolio for long term growth and returns. Inspired by the legendary Warren Buffett and his Berkshire Hathaway Portfolio,  I have been using dollar cost averaging to build up my position for my stock portfolio over time. Based on this strategy, I have attempted to invest equal dollar amounts at regular intervals in five high quality stocks of $Alibaba(BABA.US)$, $Apple(AAPL.US)$, $Bank of America(BAC.US)$, $Microsoft(MSFT.US)$, $NVIDIA(NVDA.US)$ that I have shortlisted to be fundamentally sound companies with strong long term growth prospects. As timing the market accurately is almost impossible, I have bought in these stocks at a range of different prices. With dollar cost averaging, I broke my investment into parts and bought into the stocks at equal time intervals at a set monthly schedule rather than using my capital to buy all the stocks at one go. I have allocated my funds equally to each these five stocks and set aside the same amount each month to buy an equal weightage of these stocks. There is no one best day to dollar cost average. By breaking my investment into chunks, it is more manageable for me financially and helps me to avoid trying to time the market. The lower transaction costs over at $Futu Holdings Ltd(FUTU.US)$ moomoo also help to reduce trading costs for the stock purchases. Over the course of Q3, the stock prices did not seem to change significantly from the average cost price despite the market volatility, especially in September, normally considered the worst month of the calendar year for investing. This Q3 was no different and the market was unable to beat the September Curse. With dollar cost averaging, I was able to buy more of the stocks with the same capital. But this may have worked better for Q3 as the stock prices did not keep rising. While dollar cost averaging may not be suited for everyone, it has worked well for me as it not only takes away the emotional stress and anxiety with trying the impossible feat of timing the market but also helps in refraining from the FOMO attitude towards investing. Most importantly, it aligns well with my investment goal of building up a high quality stock portfolio that can withstand the test of time and any market upheavals.

Write Trading Notes, Find Your Edge

SmileWhat is a trading note and why do you need one?
A bodybuilder tracks his diet and weight, a scientist tracks his findings and results, and a student tracks his test scores. It's the same idea for trader to take notes to track trading activity. Good trading notes will help you identify your strength and weakness. There's no such person as a perfect trader, but you can always minimize your weakness and find your edge in the market. Cool Guy
You may find a template like this:
What?!! This looks so complicated! SobSobIs there any way to make it more straightforward and clearer? Of course there is!DroolMoomoo's notes feature is the answer to your questions. Forget trying to interpret hundreds of spreadsheets of stock trading data. Replace those spreadsheets with our easy-to-use reports to understand your trading behavior quickly.DroolDrool
(Note: Quote color is set as "Red Up/ Green Down")
Moomoo's trading notes allow you to record the details of your current position target and the profit and loss; it can also count how many stocks you have traded within a certain period and in what frequency. The review is much clearer, more handy.Grin
SmileHow to create your trading notes?
Now that we got order, transaction, and position details, how can we write a good trading review? How to write notes for different scenarios? Here we list 3 scenarios that you might come across for your reference. You may also adjust them to meet your needs.
Scenario 1: How to write a recap for 2021 Q3?Awkward
JoyfulWhat you need: Transaction Stats & Transaction / Order
    JoyfulDescription:
For Q3 review, you may want to review what stocks you've been trading, if the price is reasonable, and see if you profit or lose. "Transaction Stats" is a good feature to illustrate all these. Remember when we came across circuit breaker three times last year? You may use "Transaction" to review single order in that specific market trend so that you would know whether you were succeeded in cashing out at the peak or buying the dip.
(stinger at the end of the post!)
    e.g.
Scenario 2: I don't wanna get a margin call, so I want to know whether my positions are proper and which stock might be too heavy. Awkward
JoyfulWhat you need: Position Details & Transaction / Order
    JoyfulDescription:
For example, if you are holding 2  technology stocks and 3 healthcare stocks, you can add "Position Details" to see whether your total position is within the expected margin. Then you calculate the proportion of each stock and check the respective P/L. If you hold large positions for a specific stock, you may review the reason behind it with "Transaction / Order". Finally, you would understand whether your position is reasonable and how to adjust it if not.
    e.g.
Scenario 3: I am holding 6 stocks and wondering which one is losing money and which one is profitable. Awkward
JoyfulWhat you need: Position Stats & Transaction / Order
    JoyfulDescription:
Are you ready to review all your stock's performance? With "Position Stats", you will understand your stocks better.
    e.g.

    Buy wisely

Some of the best stocks are at very good prices now including $Apple(AAPL.US)$$Futu Holdings Ltd(FUTU.US)$$Alibaba(BABA.US)$. Personally I'm monitoring the volatility but would buy the dip in these stocks that I have faith in. However, I'd buy cautiously so I'll have spare funds if they drop further. Most importantly, all investors must still do their own research and only invest in those with long term potential, which means they will come out of the lows and be in great shape a few months down the road.

Seeing that many people ask questions like vxx and uvxy that the etp multiples have a smaller increase than the vix index, let me talk a little bit about my understanding.
This is because vix futures are now in a premium state. In the early stage of vix startup, those ETPs have to sell the current month futures (relatively cheap) and then buy the next month futures (relatively expensive), and there is a certain discount. That is, the headwind effect. $CBOE Volatility S&P 500 Index(.VIX.US)$$iPath Series B S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN(VXX.US)$$ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Futures ETF(UVXY.US)$$VIX Index Futures Main(FEB3)(VXmain.US)$
