Singapore real estate investment trusts can benefit from their safe-haven status during a time of market volatility as the U.S. Fed raises interest rates, analysts from DBS say in a research note.
The Fed's clarity on its rate-rise trajectory will likely lead to more price stability for Singapore REITs, they say.

$EVERGRANDE(03333.HK)$ The city of Chengdu has taken back two plots of land from China Evergrande Group the latest move by authorities to seize assets from the cash-strapped property developer.
The land planning authority in the southwestern city said it was taking control of the plots, totalling over 300,000 square meters, as Evergrande had not developed them after holding them for over a decade.
The notices on the two plots, posted by the authority on Dec. 17, followed the same move by the Haikou city authority early last week, taking back a plot without compensation in the country's island province of Hainan.
The Chinese government is calling the shots at Evergrande after the real estate giant missed payments on two overseas bonds, triggering a restructuring to deal with its more than $300 billion in liabilities.
The authorities are scrutinising the assets of Evergrande and its wealthy chairman Hui Ka Yan but expect no fire sale for now, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters last week.
A government body has taken over Evergrande's soccer stadium in Guangzhou - set to be the world's largest soccer venue by capacity - with a view to selling it, another person said last month, as the developer has halted construction due to a lack of capital.
Its EV unit China Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group also said late last month it had returned undeveloped lands for seven projects worth a total of 1.3 billion yuan ($203.87 million) to the government.
Shares of Evergrande fell 9.9% on Monday to HK$1.46, a fresh low.
S&P downgraded Evergrande on Friday to "selective default" after the firm missed a debt payment deadline earlier this month, putting the developer at risk of becoming the country's biggest defaulter. Fitch has already downgraded the developer to "restricted default".

The poster child of China's property crisis China Evergrande Group was officially declared in default by credit rating agency S&P Global on Friday after the sprawling firm missed a bond payment earlier this month.
"We assess that China Evergrande Group and its offshore financing arm Tianji Holding Ltd. have failed to make coupon payments for their outstanding U.S.-dollar senior notes," S&P said in a statement.
S&P $S&P Global(SPGI.US)$ added that Evergrande had asked for the ratings to be withdrawn following the downgrades to 'selective default' a term ratings firms use to describe a missed payment on a bond, but not necessarily all its bonds.
"Evergrande, Tianji, or the trustee have made no announcement or any confirmation with us on the status of the coupon payments," S&P said. $China Evergrande (ADR)(EGRNY.US)$

    Welcome back Mooers
In this post, we are going to use the SI feature to create our SI Portfolio, by following our 'Clone an SI portfolio in 8 simple steps'.
    Here we go!
Step 1. Identify the number of stocks that we are willing to trade.
We will need to know what is the number of stocks that we are comfortable trading with. This number should be in a range between 5 to 35 and should be flexible for later fine-tune if required.
Step 2. Identify the list of favorite stocks that we can afford to trade with.
Besides knowing the number of stocks that we are comfortable trading with, we can also list down our favorite stocks that we can afford to trade should we buy them all. The number of favorite stocks should be in a range between 25% to 75% of the total number of stocks we had identified in step 1.
Step 3. Identify the budget that we are going to spend on our portfolio.
Next, we will need to know how much money we are comfortable to invest in our SI portfolio. This amount should be flexible enough to be tweaked at a later time if required.
Step 4. Look thru the SI we are familiar with listed in the SI feature.
Now, we will scan thru the SI list to select those SI that we are familiar with, and try to match the SI top X number of stocks with our preferences set in the first 3 steps.
Step 5. Check if SI have at least 8 consecutive years of quarterly 13F filings.
As a precaution, we would want our SI to have at least 8 consecutive years of quarterly 13F filings. This helps to let us know that the SI is committed and shown a certain degree of portfolio resilient during stock market volatility.
Step 6. Look out for any restatements (for both buys and sells) issued by SI.
Restatements may contain strategic & valuable information that is associated with significant abnormal returns. This was described in a 2021 interuniversity research report done by Sean Cao, Zhi Da, Xin Daniel Jiang and Baozhong Yang.
Step 7. Using our magic formula.
The magic formula to find out the maximum number of each stock that we can buy for our SI portfolio is:
[ (Stock weightage in SI portfolio / Total weightage of trimmed SI portfolio) x our budget (Step 3) ] / current Stock price.
Each result will be round down to the nearest integer.
Step 8. Begin our cloning via trading.
Finally, we can place our trading to make a similar clone of the SI portfolio to form our SI Portfolio.
Before we end this post, please vote if you wish to have an example to illustrate the above steps.
Remember to show your support and thank you very much.
