A short squeeze can occur when a heavily shorted stock rises in value instead of falling. Short sellers could be looking to close out their position and can face a loss if they have to buy back the shares they initially borrowed at a higher price.
Here is a look at Fintel's top five short squeeze candidates for the week of Dec. 27.

Stock rally may continue in Asia after U.S. record
A global advance in stocks looked set to continue in Asia on Friday on optimism that the world economy will shrug off the outbreak of the omicron virus strain and keep expanding next year.
Australian shares climbed, while futures for Japan and Hong Kong rose. The $S&P 500 Index(.SPX.US)$ hit a record, with nearly all major sectors in the green. Volumes have thinned and a number of markets are closed or operating with reduced hours on Christmas Eve.
Hedge funds kick risk addiction at end of crazy year for stocks
Calm has finally come to a stock market that for weeks had been swinging violently. Bulls who hung tough are ending the year on firm footing after a frenzied off-loading of risk by professional speculators.
December's big sellers were hedge funds, which, chastened by wrong-way bets on high-flying software firms, spent the month slashing high-momentum trades. It helped make this one of the most volatile year-ends for big-cap tech in the past decade, with the absolute size of close-to-close moves in the $NASDAQ 100 Index(.NDX.US)$ clocking in around 1.4%.
Consumer sentiment in U.S. increases on improved outlooks
U.S. consumer sentiment increased in December from a month earlier as households grew more upbeat about the economy and the outlook for their finances.
The University of Michigan's final sentiment index increased to 70.6 during the month from a decade-low of 67.4 in November, data released Thursday showed. Interviews for the latest report were conducted Nov. 22 through Dec. 20.
SEC spurns crypto industry again, denying two spot-bitcoin ETFs
Regulators rejected a pair of proposals to offer physically-backed Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, handing crypto enthusiasts a proverbial bag of coal ahead of the Christmas holiday.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission said on Wednesday that the proposals from Valkyrie Investments and Kryptoin failed to meet requirements to prevent fraudulent and manipulative practices that are needed to protect investors. The earlier-than-expected decision from the SEC could suggest a 2022 approval for a pure Bitcoin fund may not be in the cards either.
Jack Dorsey blocked on Twitter by Marc Andreessen after Web3 comments
The block comes after Dorsey criticized the venture capital industry and made several remarks about Andreessen Horowitz in particular.
The entrepreneur said "Web3" — a potential new decentralized version of the internet based on blockchain — would be owned by rich VCs like Andreessen instead of "the people". "I'm officially banned from Web3," Dorsey tweeted Wednesday alongside a screenshot showing he had been blocked by Andreessen.
Nikola shares surge 18% after company delivers its first EV truck, says more to come
Earlier this week, $Nikola(NKLA.US)$ said it agreed to pay the Securities and Exchange Commission $125 million to settle charges it defrauded investors by misleading them about its products, technical capacity and business prospects.
Crocs CEO defends $2.5 billion Hey Dude acquisition as shares tumble
Some investors are not seeing the appeal in $Crocs(CROX.US)$' multibillion-dollar deal to buy the casual shoemaker Hey Dude.
Crocs CEO Andrew Rees argues the acquisition could lead to robust sales growth, especially in the U.S. Northeast and coastal urban regions. On Thursday morning, the retailer announced plans to acquire the privately held footwear label for $2.5 billion in a cash-and-stock deal.
U.S. airline industry steps up push for CDC to cut quarantine time for breakthrough Covid cases, warning of labor shortages
A major U.S. airlines industry group asked the CDC to reduce its 10-day recommended quarantine for breakthrough Covid cases.
Airlines for America, which represents $Southwest Airlines(LUV.US)$, $American Airlines(AAL.US)$, $United Airlines(UAL.US)$, $Delta Air Lines(DAL.US)$ and others, warned that the current quarantine guidelines could cause labor shortages and disruptions. Delta Air Lines sent its own letter about shortening quarantine requirements earlier this week.

On last Sunday, Elon Musk tweeted a TikTok of an interview between Bill Gates and David Letterman in 1995, asking, "Given the almost unimaginable nature of the present, what will the future be?" After showing the interview clip, the TikToker who post the interview comments that what Gates said about the internet is the same as "what's happening now with Web3."
    Watch the TikTok:
Web3 is the decentralized iteration of the internet based on blockchain technology, which powers nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, and underpins cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. Supporters of Web3 think , like $Amazon(AMZN.US)$ , $Apple(AAPL.US)$ , $Alphabet-A(GOOGL.US)$ , $Meta Platforms(FB.US)$. With Web3, users would ideally control their own data instead.
However, Elon Musk tweeted Web3 is not real, "it seems more like a 'marketing buzzword' than a reality."
In the comment session under the tweet, some people agree with Musk that Web3 is currently little more than a buzzword, while some commented it is just not fully real just yet.
A day later, Musk followed up saying: "Has anyone seen web3? I can't find it.”
On this Tuesday, Jack Dorsey, $Twitter (Delisted)(TWTR.US)$'s founder, also tweeted his opinion about Web3. He believes that VCs and their limited partners will be the ones who ultimately end up owning Web3.
So, what do you think about Web3? Do you agree with Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey?

Today's stock market adjustments aren't any news; the tax supplement via is the big news. The national dilemma reflected behind Via's tax payment is what matters most.
Actually, it's just four words. Finance is tight
The tax avoidance method used by Via is the current mainstream tax avoidance law, including Fan Bingbing, who was also taxed in the same way back then. If you are familiar with tax planning, you should know that they all use tax approval methods to form shell companies to launder high income into approval and taxation. After such an operation, it is possible that the final profit of 100 million dollars only needs to be paid 5 points in tax. However, if you file your taxes normally and truthfully, when corporate income tax and personal income tax are removed, you won't be able to get away with 45 points.
Who can't get along with money? A normal person would pay 45 points in taxes. Except for the wages stated by business executives. The reason it was fine before is an accident now. It is because the country has to implement the national policy of common prosperity and return the tax avoidance money from high-income people.
Are you saying that Via broke the law? It's definitely against the law, but in the past it was just a bug; people didn't raise an official and didn't investigate; local governments opened one eye and closed one eye. But now it's not what it used to be. The rich people who want to move are at the head of these traffic fields. She used to be a movie star, but now she's a live streaming celebrity. Furthermore, human society is aimed at high-income groups regardless of whether it is within or outside of Japan. Crackdown on the rich. Although the poor didn't get a dime, they were very happy to eat melons.
So what does common wealth have to do with stock market investment? The relationship is huge. If you want to see the country's determination to achieve common prosperity, what do you emphasize?
    Fair! Fair! Still damn fair!
Therefore, the future of many industries will be cut off by the national policy of fairness, and some expectations have been cut off. In particular, platform-based companies that use traffic to make money, such as Alibaba, Douyin Headline, or Meituan, and other Internet-related industries.
Who is the smartest of these platforms? It's a TikTok headline.
I've said it and you'll understand. If you haven't used Douyin, you've probably heard of it, Classmate Zhang. In just a few months, there were 20 million fans filming Life in the Countryside. The People's Daily has made a special review. Some analyses are that professional shooting techniques are popular, while others are that people are tired of watching the high life in the city and yearn for the countryside.
    It's all wrong.
This is the most obvious case under the common wealth policy. It is to create opportunities for grassroots. Only when grassroots have an opportunity can it mean that most ordinary people also have a chance to become the next student Zhang. Douyin knows national policies too well, alleviates poverty, helps farmers, and starts grassroots short video businesses. In the future, we will also support a large number of students Zhang to show off the various opportunities and livelihoods in rural areas with huge traffic. If you happen to be a short video entrepreneur or live e-commerce operator, you should see this trend. This is the policy direction conveyed by D's will. Going to the countryside to start a business in the future is the best outlet. Whether it's e-commerce in rural areas or ecotourism, it's a good direction for the future.
However, D's will must also allow banks to reduce the benefits of fixed income products and fully popularize equity assets. It's also a way to get rich together. Only when ordinary people also have opportunities to grow their wealth can this society be healthy. Instead of rich people getting richer through stock market investments, ordinary people don't see opportunities.
The national policy for common prosperity requires a thorough understanding in order to seize the opportunities that belong to you in the next 20 years. At the same time, we also need to think about how many billion dollars is Via's income, and her share of tax burden is still less than that of people with a few thousand wages?
    Is that reasonable?
OK, let's talk about this briefly. If you're interested, we can talk about how much the world, Jingyu, and national policies can change our lives later $TENCENT(00700.HK)$ $BABA-SW(09988.HK)$ $MEITUAN-W(03690.HK)$

Shares of $Alibaba(BABA.US)$ and $Baidu(BIDU.US)$ traded slightly higher in Hong Kong on Monday, while $JD.com(JD.US)$ , $Tencent(TCEHY.US)$ , $Li Auto(LI.US)$ and $XPeng(XPEV.US)$ slumped.
What’s Moving: Shares of Alibaba and Baidu traded about 1% higher each in Hong Kong at the time of writing, while JD.Com, Tencent, Li Auto and Xpeng traded lower, in a range between 1% and 3%. Chinese EV startup $NIO Inc(NIO.US)$ unveiled a mid-size sedan named ET5 at its annual Nio Day event on Saturday. The new vehicle is seen as a competitor to $Tesla(TSLA.US)$ Model 3 sedan, which is the Elon Musk-led company’s best-selling car globally. Hong Kong’s benchmark Hang Seng Index opened lower on Monday and was down almost 1% at the time of writing. The index closed 1.2% lower on Friday amid worries about rising U.S.-China tensions after the U.S. government imposed new sanctions on Chinese tech companies.
Why Is It Moving? The Hang Seng Index extended losses even as the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) cut its benchmark lending rate for the first time in almost two years on Monday.
The one-year loan prime rate (LPR) was reduced from 3.85% to 3.8% as part of the central bank’s efforts to support the Chinese economy, which is struggling from muted consumer spending and a slump in the property sector.
Worries about the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant around the world also weighed on the market.
Shares of Chinese companies closed mostly lower in U.S. trading on Friday after the major averages in the U.S. ended lower as investors grappled with the reality of tighter monetary policy by the Federal Reserve.

TWO: What do you think of meme stocks?
@Machiavellis3rdEyeused vivid language to call for rational investing and remind mooers to watch out for media manipulations. Do you agree with him?
"You ARE ALL MY ALLIES, regardless of your investment choices, politics, religions, colors, sex, or anything else! I say we start learning and adapting to their constantly evolving illegal games (media manipulation, PFOF, CB's) together. Then we will all figure out how to take that cheese - without getting TRAPPED."

SIX: How do you decide when to buy/sell?
@HopeAlwayssaid that there is no best way to determine when to buy and when to sell the stocks of indexes. The timings depend on investing goals, philosophies, and personal preferences.
"The three main risks are company, valuation and earnings risks. Once we are able to find a stock that that signals low risk based on these three conditions, it is time to buy. Whenever a negative change happens to any of the three conditions,  it is time to sell."

SEVEN: How do you know when to stop loss / take profit?
@Powerhousehas three underlying principles in stopping losses and taking profits. All investors should stay informed and closely observe trends to set price targets.
