(Kuala Lumpur, 22nd report) NationGate Holdings $NATGATE (0270.MY)$ announced that the Inland Revenue Board has completed its tax investigation into the company and confirmed that its accounting records are proper and compliant.
NationGate Holdings reported to Bursa Malaysia today that the board received a notice from the Inland Revenue Board on January 20, confirming that the relevant investigation has officially concluded and there were no irregularities found in the accounts and records submitted by the company.
Meanwhile, the bank accounts previously restricted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) have resumed normal operations as the restrictions have been lifted.
As previously reported, in July last year, NationGate Holdings disclosed that the MACC conducted a raid on the office premises of its wholly-owned subsidiary, NationGate Solution (M) Sdn Bhd, as part of an investigation into alleged scrap metal smuggling activities.
The above action is part of the nationwide enforcement operation 'Op Metal' jointly carried out by the MACC and the Inland Revenue Board.
This operation spanned five states and investigated syndicates suspected of smuggling scrap metal through bribing enforcement officers, reportedly causing the government to lose over 950 million ringgit in tax revenue.
At the time, this negative news caused significant pressure on NationGate Holdings’ share price over the past year, which once dropped to a 52-week low of 84.5 sen.
