Why Apple will integrate OpenAI's GPT-4o with Siri

OpenAI just announced GPT-4o, their new and improved flagship model for ChatGPT, and I'm betting that this is the model that Apple will integrate with Siri soon.

Here's why:
- Fast and Multimodal: It provides a fast and multimodal interface, allowing users to interact with their environment. It is praised as the best interface ever by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.
- Navigation Assistance: It aids in navigating physical spaces, similar to efforts by Meta, Humane, and Rabbit with their multi-modal devices.
- Improved Memory: It remembers context and details about the user, offering a deeply personalized assistant experience.
- Natural Sounding: The interface sounds and reacts naturally, allowing for interruptions and conversational flow, resembling a human interaction.
- MacOS Integration: An exclusive MacOS app integrates seamlessly, allowing users to upload screenshots, voice chat, and summarize notes/meetings. Windows support is not yet available.
- Siri Comparison: Siri, the Apple voice assistant, is seen as inferior to Amazon and Google assistants due to its lack of improvements over the years. Its only advantage lies in the Apple ecosystem.
- Apple WWDC 2024: Scheduled for June 10-14, Apple will unveil iOS 18's new features, emphasizing AI's transformative potential and Apple's hardware-software-services integration.
- Apple's Shift to AI: Apple recently shifted focus from semi-autonomous electric vehicles to AI.
- Apple-OpenAI Deal: Bloomberg reports that Apple is close to a deal with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT features into iOS 18.
- Security Implications: Forbes discusses the security implications of Apple's potential ChatGPT deal for iPhone users.
I think we're at a pivotal time in tech with AI large language models, which are finally getting to the point where they are refined and fast enough to be harnessed for general-use cases. With its seamless tech, Apple will ride this wave and finally make Siri the magical assistant that it was always supposed to be.
