US Standards Body Corrects ByteDance Researcher's Inclusion in AI Safety Group
The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) clarified that a ByteDance researcher was mistakenly added to a groupchat for American AI safety experts last week.
The individual, erroneously included by a consortium member, was swiftly removed upon NIST's discovery of the affiliation.
ByteDance and the researcher did not respond to requests for comment.
The incident raised concerns given TikTok's security debate, with the US House passing a bill targeting ByteDance.
The AI Safety Institute, under NIST, aims to evaluate AI risks and collaborate on guidelines with major tech firms.
