US federal budget expands to surplus of 210 billion dollars in April
The Treasury Department announced on Friday that the US government earned 210 billion dollars more in spending in April compared to the expected surplus of 244.5 billion dollars and the deficit of 236 billion dollars in March. Compared to a year ago, the surplus increased by 19%.
As a result, the government's total shortfall for the 2024 fiscal year is $855.2 billion, or $1.7 trillion from the previous fiscal year.
Revenue rose 22% year over year to $776 billion due to increased tax revenue from individuals and businesses.
According to the Treasury Department, spending was 567 billion dollars, up 23% from the same period last year due to rising interest rates on US bonds.
