$UnitedHealth (UNH.US)$ they previously reaffirmed their “at least” 16eps guidance just a month ago, if management is confident enough to keep their guidance, that’s a good hint tomorrow’s results could be solid 💪

103046243 : where you get the news? 16 eps is very big
TheRetailInvestor OP : 16 annual eps..not quarterly
104058636 : so good or bad? why it will drop today since report will out soon???
73569545 : Applying an 18x P/E ratio to EPS16 results in 288, while a 20x ratio yields 320. You can evaluate accordingly.
104058636 73569545 : one share give back 320? current price is higher woo 364
104058636 73569545 : my price 350...so I need to sell now?
pootpoot : it is currently an ascending triangle. wallstreet tends to favor if they see growth. so by any chance if they announced fy 2026 guidance as well and if its way better than fy 2025 (chances i think yes due to ACA premium increment). so still a long way to go.
whether or not government shutdown obamacare getting reinstated or not doesnt really matter for big companies like ELV, UNH. only companies like MOH, OSCAR, CNC gonna suffer because their business model are so reliant on medicaid program.
personally im pretty neutral towards UNH earnings, if it rockets thats great. if it tanks, good chance for me to add long term holdings.
TheRetailInvestor OP 73569545 : That logic only works if you’re valuing the company on trailing earnings, but markets don’t price stocks that way. The market is forward looking, meaning it is already factoring in next year’s EPS and growth potential.
No one values companies like Tesla or Amazon using current EPS, they trade where they are because people are pricing in future growth.. If $UnitedHealth (UNH.US)$ next year’s EPS jumps from 16 to 20, even the same 18-20x multiple gives you $ 360–400, not $ 288-320. thats how the market works
pootpoot TheRetailInvestor OP : if companies are evaluated using pe ratio, then palantir, amd, reddit etc must be very interesting if based on your theory…
TheRetailInvestor OP pootpoot : correction, i meant eps haha
